I just came back from watching "No One Killed Jessica" and the sad news is... that Patiala Court was featured again and again there...
But the more sad news is: the way Sikhs were personified and displayed in the movie. 3 specific scenes come to mind where the Sikhs were given a bad exposure:
(a) A Sikh was shown like a wild creature at home with his hair down watching the news.
(b) A group of Sikhs called into the show and when their leader says “we all support Jessica and there are at least 15 of us here who will all stand for her". then he says "Sare Bolo... Justice for" and he was expecting his friends to shout back "Jessica" but they instead kept repeating “Justice For"!
He said no... and repeated "Sare Bolo... Justice for" and he was expecting his friends to shout back "Jessica" but they instead kept repeating “Justice For"!
As this happened a few times, the whole theatre was laughing and reinforcing the theme that Sikhs are Idiotic Jokers!
No wonder no young Sikhs want to keep their sarrop anymore... because of all this subliminal marketing of anti- Sikhs messages.
(c) In another scene, where all others are having a candle vigil.. a group of turbaned Sikhs are also going the same, but with a difference:
The difference is that they are wearing T-shirts with the picture of a Gorilla holding up its middle finger and these young turbaned Sikhs are also holding a candle in one hand and showing their middle fingers with the other hand!
Someone in the theatre shouted: "Sardar Ji and gorilla all the same same"!
Dear Sikh Brothers and Sisters… what do you think can be done about this psychological warfare on Sikhs that has been declared by some people in the media and more?
We have bigger battles to fight. I can marry and have a few kids of my own and when they go down the wrong path too, because the media and the influence of the general environment will be over whelming... then the sadness in the eyes of my parents and the family will be too much for me to handle.
I think if we can spend our time, effort and energy in making the environment right first, then it will be right for me to have a wife and children too...
In fact, I urge you to think of our bigger family "ਸੁਖੀ ਬਸੇਹ ਮੋਰ੍ਰੋ ਪਰਵਾਰ" that Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji spoke about. That bigger family needs our help more today than ever before... it is not the battle of the sword and guns that is needed today, but one of the pen the SMS and the internet media to fight the physiological warfare that has been thrown on the Sikhs.
Let me know when you want to start doing something about this too…
And tell us what can and should be done…
